Description: Marie Wilson began painting in oils at the age of ten and that same year a friend introduced her to the wonderful world of miniatures. The following Christmas, Marie's mother and father, gave her a dollhouse. Her parents supported her talents and gave her after school art classes and helped her with the materials she needed to decorate her dollhouse. Marie was encouraged by those around her to pursue her talents and continue her education and her passion for the Arts. She graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in both Art History and Interior Design. In 1992, Marie discovered the art of porcelain doll making and began creating faeries as a hobby but soon was selling them to friends and then to their friends and families.
Marie Wilson and Erin Carter met in 2003 at the International Guild of Miniature Artist school program in Castine, Maine, where they became fast friends. That same year Marie took her first class and met her mentor and friend , Maria Jose Santos of Spain. In her classes she learned skills and techniques, as well as the many materials available to miniaturists which led her into the wonderful world of miniature doll making.
The miniature doll community is filled with artists who willingly and generously share their talents and tips and who continue to teach and inspire those with the desire to create beautiful dolls.
Erin Carter found her passion for miniatures at a young age of 5 when her grandfather made her first dollhouse. Erin began to refine her miniature skills when she won a scholarship from the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA) to attend school in Castine, Maine at the age of 19. She is still the youngest recipient of that scholarship. Erin found her favorite classes were taught by Sandra Wall Rubin in the art of flower making, but excelled in all her classes including scrimshaw, costume making with Maria Jose Santos, culinary creation, and stainglass.
Erin has worked for years in a bakery making cakes and pastries and in 2004, Marie Wilson sent her a miniature cake making kit as a birthday present. Since then, Erin has enjoyed creating her tiny cakes and desserts to sell at miniature shows where they have been very popular. She continues to explore her talents with food and flowers.
